Aim and Scope

The International Hitit Security Studies Congress, organized by the Department of International Relations at Hitit University's Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, has so far hosted the presentation of approximately 450 different papers across three previous editions. Numerous academics, researchers, and experts have come together in general and thematic sessions. The fourth of the Congress, which has been granted support under the TÜBİTAK 2223-B Domestic Scientific Event Organization Support Program, will be held on December 12-14, 2024, in a hybrid format (participants can choose to attend either online or in person). The Congress aims to provide a platform where researchers in the field of security can discuss both traditional and contemporary issues, and explore new perspectives that will shape the future of security studies. This year’s Congress will focus on "regional security," in light of ongoing global discussions and trends highlighting the fragmented nature of the world and the return of a multipolar global order. While not limited to this topic, the main theme of this year’s congress will be "Regionalizing Security in a Globalizing World: Challenges, Crises, and Opportunities." As detailed in the list of Congress topics, the event aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the theoretical, conceptual, and current dimensions of security studies, in the context of both fundamental issues and contemporary developments.

Security, particularly international security, has been one of the core areas of study within the discipline of International Relations since its inception. With its dynamic nature, security studies continues to confront new questions and challenges, influenced by changes within the discipline and in international politics. Given the complexity and diversity of issues in today's world, it is increasingly essential to conduct comprehensive studies from a regional security perspective, analyzing the policies pursued by international political actors in response to these challenges and evaluating their adequacy.

This congress aims to bring together researchers and esteemed scholars in the field to discuss these security-related debates, which also touch upon the search for peace in international politics. Topics will include a variety of subfields such as "international security, ontological security, migration studies, intelligence, energy politics, environmental security and policies, terrorism, defense industry, economic security, cyber security, crypto-economy, geopolitics, regional studies, criminology, transnational crime, war and peace studies, conflict and crisis management, globalization debates, public security, and contemporary international security issues." The congress aims to foster extensive academic discussions and produce scientific publications that will contribute to the literature.
